21 NON TOXIC VEGAN SELF CARE PRODUCTS

Hello! I wanted to do a little post with all my current favorite cruelty free, vegan, non toxic staples. There are a few more that I rotate in but for now this is it :)

1. Dr. Bronner's Organic Pure Castile Bar Soap

I have been using this soap for such a long time! I absolutely love the way it cleans, love how the company manufactures their products, and love the way it transforms my bathroom into to a peppermint filled steam room when I use it. The bar of soap under this is one that I got at a farmers market, just as clean and no brand name.

2. Dr. Bronner's Toothpaste in Peppermint

Another staple from Dr. Bronner's. It is very fresh and does a great job. Later on in my list I'll mention what I mix in on occasion with this toothpaste to keep my teeth pearly white.

3. Desert Essence Organics Tropical Coconut Hand and Body Lotion

If you are looking for an inexpensive yet clean body lotion with lots of moisturizing properties, you may like this as much as I do. I am always switching up my body lotions, but I come back to this brand time and again because it is so cheap and still effective. They have so many scents as well, I'm sure you'll find one that suits you too.

4. DIY Coco Butter / Coconut Oil Body Butter

This DIY body butter has saved my skin during pregnancy and it is so easy to make. Here's what you need to do: Melt 3/4 cups organic pure organic coco butter and 1/4 cup organic coconut oil in a sauce pan or double boiler, then put in the freezer for about a 1/2 hour to cool to a semi hardened consistency. Once cooled beat with an electric mixer until it looks like a whipped body butter. Store in a glass container with a lid and you are done! It hardens up, but will begin to soften and melt once it hits your skin. This is really great for SUPER dry skin.

5. Clarisonic Mia

This is SO old and it is still kicking! I use this clarisonic face brush in the A.M. or every other morning depending on how my skin feels. I love it for exfoliation, but find that if I use it more than once a day it is too irritating for my skin. It really does wonders in the exfoliating department though, I definitely recommend it if you need a good scrub.

6. Wooden Hair Brush

I purchased this no name wooden hair brush while in Germany and it is the best brush I have ever owned, and here is why: Natural wooden bristles help to naturally condition your hair, and evenly distribute your hair's natural oils down the hair shaft. It's very gentle, and I've noticed a lot less hair loss when brushing with wooden brush bristles as opposed to plastic ones. The little bristles also increase circulation on your scalp bringing nutrients to your hair follicles.

7. Ancient Secrets Nasal Cleansing (Neti) Pot

I have owned quite a few of these in my life (mostly because I have cracked them while traveling) but this is an affordable option and something I absolute swear by for vocal and all around health. I neti pot every morning right after oil pulling, and it is something that really sets the tone for my whole day. The practice of nasal washing, known as Neti, has been used by practitioners of Yoga and Ayurveda in India for hundreds, if not thousands of years. If you have any sinus or allergy issues, you may want to add this to your routine. I simply mix about a 1/4 tsp nasal salt (#19) with luke warm filtered water and rinse each nostril out a few times. I also gargle with salt water in the same ratios daily.

8. Vita Coco Coconut Oil 100% Organic, Unrefined, and Cold Pressed

What can I say, by now we all know how versatile coconut oil is and how it can be used for virtually anything. This is my favorite brand, it is really smooth and I use it for many things: Oil pulling, I brush my teeth with it sometimes, use it as a body moisturizer, hair mask, make DIY beauty things with it...the possibilities are endless :)

9. Acure Facial Cleansing Gel

This is another inexpensive yet effective clean product that I have used on and off for years. Although I am a new convert to the oil cleansing method (see #10) I still like to use this foaming cleanser whenever I decide to use my clarisonic mia for exfoliation. The scent is clean and mild, and it gets makeup and dirt off without feeling like you've stripped your skin. It works well for acne prone skin too!

10. DIY Oil Cleanser

As mentioned above, the oil cleansing method is my new skin love! I can't believe how late to the game I was on this one, but all I can say is oil cleansing has completely transformed my face! This mixture is no joke, it has healed dry skin, blackheads, cystic acne, scarring, texture, and overall appearance of my face! I use a very simple mixture of 1 part castor oil, 1 part jojoba oil and that works great for me. On occasion I add in a drop of cypress or geranium essential oil (#13). I oil cleanse nightly to remove makeup and to just give my face a lovely bit of pampering on the daily. If you haven't tried it yet, I strongly urge you to run to your nearest health food store and grab some oils ASAP!

11. Alba Botanica Strong Hold Style Gel

This is the first "natural" gel that has ever done anything for my hair. I have used it in my hair during performance and it has held up, and I also use it to set my brows with a little spooly once I have filled them in, and in either case it holds. It doesn't really smell like anything and I'm sticking to it because it works.

12. Similisan Dry Eye Relief Eye Drops

I first heard about these drops from a friend on Instagram, and I was desperate to find a natural alternative to what I had been using. I have always struggled with dry eyes, and living in a windy desert climate does not help. These are great because they use natural botanical extracts, no harsh vasoconstrictors, and there are no side effects.

13. Cypress and Geranium Essential Oils

These essential oils are great for a myriad of symptoms. As mentioned above, I sometimes add cypress or geranium essential oils to my oil cleanser. Cypress essential oil which is antiseptic due to the presence of camphene, makes it a choice healer and skin cell renewer working well for combo and oily skin. Geranium essential oil is great to treat acne, reduce inflammation, helps heal, alleviates anxiety and balance hormones.

14. DIY Apple Cider Vinegar and Water Toner

This is just a little glass spray bottle filled with equal parts ACV and water. I like to spray it on my hair before a shower when I need some clarifying, and I use it once a day after cleansing for toning my facial skin. It stinks, BUT it tightens up pores, and contains alpha hydroxy acids that remove dead skin to reveal healthy and vibrant new skin!

15. Acure Argan Oil

I started buying this purely because it was on sale at my local health food store, and found that it has actually become my favorite argan oil I have ever tried. I use argan oil exclusively as my facial moisturizer day and night. For me, it is the best moisturizer to apply right before I apply my makeup (I use a cream concealer and a mineral powder foundation) and my skin just absorbs it without any greasy residue left behind. At night after oil cleansing, a mist of ACV and water, this is my last step and I always wake up with hydrated, plump skin. It turns out to be a super cheap skin regime, which I love :)

16. Home Health Herbal Magic Deodorant, Unscented

I have a secret to share with you....I don't wear deodorant very often. Since switching over to a vegan diet, my body doesn't really stink anymore (reason #3,056 to go vegan), but when I am headed out to a big event or when I will be on stage, this is my go to deodorant. I have been using this off and on for over 8 years. It is effective, cheap, and unscented. Enough said.

17. Food Grade Hydrogen Peroxide

I use hydrogen peroxide on occasion for dental purposes. It's not an everyday thing, but I find that mixing just a touch of this, plus coconut oil, and baking soda and using it as a toothpaste really brightens my teeth. This is also great if you want to do a little DIY gargle rinse for any sensitive teeth issues. I will normally do a small amount of this, water, and salt for a quick mouth rinse. This was actually recommended by our dentist who had recently done some dental work on my husband, so I feel safe passing it on to you too!

18. Baking Soda

Ah baking soda...so many uses. I keep a small glass jar of this in my bathroom for dental DIY's mentioned above, I also use it as a little face mask once or twice a month by mixing it with just a little bit of water. Making a paste, I apply it to my face for about 5 minutes, and then gently rinse off. It helps with uneven skin tone, and brightens any scarring as well. A bit of baking soda and water on a nail brush when cleaning finger nails brightens and buffs in one go too.

19. Ancient Secrets Nasal Cleansing Salt

This goes along with #7 my net pot. I love this nasal salt because it is inexpensive and gentle.

20. Sonicare Toothbrush

I have been using an electric toothbrush for many years now, and I believe it is one of the reasons that I only have one cavity. There are a lot of electric toothbrushes on the market, and I highly recommend them over a standard toothbrush, they can really up your teeth cleaning game.

21. Tinkle Eyebrow Razor

Yes, I shave my face. About once a month I use this Tinkle eyebrow razor (sanitized in alcohol) to shave my face, removing dead skin and also a little peach fuzz as well. The technique is called derma planing and I first had it done by an aesthetician in a medical spa office a few years back. The pro's use a scalpel, but for at home use this is MUCH safer. I do not recommend this to everyone, which is why you haven't seen a video up on my youtube channel about it. I would use it at your own risk and do some research on if it's right for you. It can reveal a glowy complexion and smooth skin. If you have a lot of acne, I would skip this as it may cause further irritation.

And there you have it, my no frills, simple and cheap self care products for skin, hair, and teeth! All the name brand products are hyperlinked so you can check them out. I hope you liked this post, and let me know if you have any questions about any of the products. I find that as time goes by, I am using more and more basic clean ingredients and my skin, teeth, and hair are doing better and better. What are some your favorite go to products in these categories?
