"What in the world is a flax egg?" You may find yourself asking this after seeing this title...well, I shall tell you my friend! I've spoken to a lot of you, and have found that some people are reluctant to go fully vegan because they feel they will miss out on their beloved sweet treats. Here is one substitute that I use for baking very often and it works REALLY well. Whenever I want to try to "veganize" a baking recipe this is my fist stop for replacing an egg. Sometimes I need to reassess the exact ratios depending on the recipe, but 9 times out of 10 these measurements work great to replace one egg. I love that this is an
option, and I'm sure you will too!
1 tbl flaxseed meal (ground raw flaxseed)
2.5 tbl water
1. Add flaxseed meal and water to a small bowl, stir and let sit for 3-5 minutes.
Use in your baking recipe as a replacement for 1 egg.
Some example recipes I’ve replace an egg for a flax egg in baking are: banana bread, pancakes, chocolate chip cookies, brownies, challah bread. A lot of these examples can be found in my cookbook.
